I can only think there was just enough Bluetooth range from the Magic Trackpad 1 to wake its old host machine which caused enough interfrence to prevent a new connection. I started the pairing process again and in a couple of seconds, BAM.! It paired and is workng perfectly! It was apparently responding/waking to its old trackpad in the other end of the house! I turned off the old Mac with its power button, UNPLUGGED IT, and went back to our office where the Mini is installed. Nobody had touched the old machine but it was on. It has been plugged onto the power outlet for 2-3 weeks until I could sell it. I walked into our dining room and the old Mac was ON at the first start-up screen. I do not like the Magic Trackpad 2 at all.Ī bit later I decided to try to pair once more but got the same results. I finally decided it was toast and found & purchased a new replacement Magic Trackpad 1 online. The only on-screen occassional response I could get was that the trackpad had been found but it would not connect. I went through all the resets and dinked around with Bluetooth and Trackpad in System Preferences, again, with no luck returning the Magic Mouse 1 to service. I changed batteries (two sets) with no positive results. Today I decided to do a restart of the Mini "just to refresh things." When it restarted the trackpad would not work.
Recently my old Magic Trackpad 1 (now working on the new Mini) began exhibiting odd, erratic, and jumpy behavior. The new Mini was in the opposite end of the house. I had it sittng on a dining room table in one end of the house.
It was in the "new / first-time boot" mode and was ready for a new owner. Part of that process was wiping/erasing the old Mac in prep to sell. I recently removed a (still working) iMac from service and installed a new Mac Mini. (the down 'n dirty is at the end of this long explanation) Very bizarre problem and fascinating resolution:
